 The Bible and christian unity

Abstract: Challenge and cost of Christian unity; Biblical roots in John 17, where the ‘New Temple’ image for the church is implied; the challenge of Acts, where Jew and Gentile struggle to come together in Christ; of Paul’s letters, again with strong Temple-imagery; the question of adiaphora – how do we know which things ‘do not make a difference’? – the reason why some styles of behaviour are notadiaphora’, and the challenge to the church to a properly grounded unity, not an easy-going ‘tolerance’. Today’s challenge: to discern what really unites us, what still divides us, and which of the latter may in fact be adiaphora.

Keywords: Christian Unity; John’s Gospel; new Temple; ecclesiology of New Testament; adiaphora; Paul’s letters; ecumenical movement; Anglican Communion

Mihai Himcinschi,

Trinity and society

Abstract: God addresses Himself to the whole world and all social classes through His Spirit; even then, only as far as every person obeys the spirit whom one may hear and understand by means of His breath. This communion between God and world is not a direct one and is being expressed by means of words and deeds that express the way in which people understood and answered to God’s presence in their life, in various historical moments of their experience. Still, it may be a direct revelation as a consequence of a direct intervention of Trinity in the social and personal level. People will never be completely free from the theories and the systems of the creation, but we must insist upon the affirmation that only the dogmas offer us an interpretation of the socially implemented human knowledge, no matter what level they are situated on. The social perspective of the Church helps people see if a doctrine from the social background is authentic and consonant to the criteria of the true religions knowledge-the Gospel-if it has a revelation basis.

Keywords: society, politics, Church, state, communion, revelation, interpersonal relationships, monotheism, social stability, anthropology.

Political Theology during the Constantine dynasty . Criteria concerning the Church - State relationship for a pluralist society

Abstract: Secularization is that the current social and individual values are in themselves, declaring itself autonomous in the metaphysical space of religious thought. Secularized civilization seeks human realities in terms of their actual functionality, not intended ontology of things, addresses the theme of the world and man in terms of thinking strictly tehnicizate says structural autonomy of science in relation to God, creating the premises of a methodological atheism. I believe that Such an attitude, which occurs in the current remedial secularization, is theology policy. This study is an introduction to the Orthodox political theology, first proposing a conceptual clarification to complete a set of principles on church-state report.

Keywords: political theology, the secularization, Christological context, Christian political philosophy, Constantine dynasty.

Influențe culturale româno - apusene în Țările Române în secolele XIV - XV

Abstract: Byzantine and western cultural influences into Romanian Countries in XIVth-XVth centuries. Almost inexplicably, during the time of economic, military and political crisis, which spread a lot in the last two centuries of the Byzantine Empire, at cultural level, a flourishing age has been registered before the tragic end. This was possible due to the significant and multicultural Byzantine movement that was to bring into play the dawns of Humanism and Renaissance from the western world.

Keywords: the Romanian Countries, West, Byzantine Style, Romanian Art.

Viața duhovnicească -  firescul viețuirii ortodoxe în Biserică

Abstract: Spiritual life – the natural way of living. In the Orthodox Church spiritual life means the everyday activity of life in communion with God. The term spiritual life refers not merely to the activity of man’s spirit alone, his mind, heart and soul, but it refers as well to the whole of man’s life as inspired and guided by the Spirit of God. Every act of a Christian must be spiritual, every word, every deed, every activity of the body, every action of the person. This means that all that a person thinks, says and does must be inspired and guided by the Holy Spirit so that the will of God Father might be accomplished as revealed and taught by Jesus Christ the Son of God. This is the meaning and the substance of the orthodox life. Living a spiritual life means to advance to deification, to become a god by grace. One can get and live a spiritual life only in the Church, by the Holy Sacraments, adding his effort, strengthen by grace, to fulfill God’s will. Living a spiritual life is the only way to become free and happy.

"Mixta religio" după dreptul canonic matrimonial al Bisericii Romano - Catolice

Abstract: „Mixta religio” in matrimonial canon law of the Roman Catholic Church. Regarding the Roman Catholic Church, by researching the sacramental-matrimonial legislation (Sacramentum matrimonies) since 1967 up to this very day, we may state that the Roman Catholic Church has changed its attitude towards mixed marriages, including towards those with orthodox, making a distinction between the marriage of a catholic with one baptised person and on those with a not baptised person, according to the new canonical Code in 1983. Contrary to the canonical Code in 1917 and the frame law Motu Proprio Matrimonia mixta, the canonical Code in 1983 has abolished the prohibitive impediment which interdicted the celebration of the marriage of the catholic with those baptised by another Christian confession, thus allowing a marriage in certain conditions, only with the competent ecclesiastical authority’s permission (can. 1124).

Keywords: sacramental-matrimonial legislation, mixed marriages, prohibitive impediment, celebration of the marriage, certain conditions.

Eliade - Pettazzoni sau istoria unei ucenicii

Abstract: Eliade-Pettazzoni or the History of an Apprenticeship. The present paper deals with the relationship between two outstanding representatives of the history of religion of the 20th century, Rafaelle Pettazzoni and Mircea Eliade. It focuses upon their correspondence with all its dynamism and the way in which they influenced each other. Eliade’s apprenticeship, Eliade being younger than the Italian scholar, will become, little by little, a relation of mutual respect, specific for the great spirits. It also gives attention to the methodological distinction and to the different ways followed when facing the manifestation of the religious phenomenon.

Keywords: History of religions, phenomenology of religions, correspondence, apprenticeship, the methodological aspect.

Mitropolitul Ştefan al Ungrovlahiei, editor şi predoslov al unor tipărituri româneşti de la mijlocul secolului al XVII-lea

Abstract: Metroplit Ştefan of Valachia – editor of some romanian books in the middle of XVIIth century. By showing passion for the written word from early adulthood, once appointed Metropolitan, Stefan of the Romanian Country continues the work started by his predecessor, Metropolitan Teofil and he also takes care of printing some important cult books. The two books that were printed during his first years of pastorate appeared under his spiritual patronage. He gave his consent to print, in Targoviste, Triod-Penticostar slavonesc (the Slavon Triod-Penticostar) (1649) and Pogribania preoţilor (the Priests’ Funeral Ceremony) (1650). Being well aware of the real problems his contemporary priests had to face, Metropolitan Stefan of the Romanian Country encouraged and supported the translation and the printing activities, especially of some very important Orthodox books, focusing his attention on those that dealt with the Holy Mysteries, the rituals and the laws of the church which were essential issues which all the church ministers were obliged to know and obey. We bring into attention his original texts, i.e. the predoslovia of the mentioned above printings, the firm and asseverate tone when he refers to the importance of obeying the rituals and the laws of the church, his effort to underline the importance of performing the Holy Baptism, to render the significance of the Holy Myrrh, to highlight the priests’ duties and the rituals that had to be carried out only by the bishop. One may remark Metropolitan Stefan’ s cultural opening, his great mastering of the laws of the church and of the history of the church as well as his concern for everything that means church culture.

Keywords: Metropolitan Stefan of the Ungrovlah Country, old Romanian printings, predoslovias (forewords), Mystirio (1651), Îndreptarea legii (1652), Târnosanie (1652).

Religie și Evaluare

Abstract: Religion and Evaluation. By doing Religious Education in schools, through the (re-)introduction of Religious Education as school subject and starting from the fact that any educational path also presupposes evaluation, the present study intends to set the fundament of evaluation in this area, starting from the explanation of the terms: religion, religious education, evaluation and the way in which evaluation is reflected in the biblical text.

The accomplishment of an efficient evaluation in R. E. presupposes, in the first place, raising the awareness of students in regard to the importance of this path in their spiritual progress, and, from the perspective of the evaluator, the identification of the roles of the educational contexts in the shaping of the characteristics of evaluation in schools and also the crystallisation of the modern approach of the evaluative methods; all these done according to the Christian values revealed in the Holy Scripture.

Keywords: religion, religious education, evaluation, evaluation in schools, self-evaluation

Liviu Petcu,

Accente filocalice privitoare la Taina Sfântului Botez

Abstract: The Holy Sacraments of the Church are present in the Philokalic texts as being absolutely mandatory for redemption, each of them being a stage that the faithful have to fulfill in order to reach the Kingdom of Heaven. The cleaning and holy work of the faithful is achieved by the Holy Communion. By this communion, the faithful maintain, protect and strengthen their spiritual life, as they are thus given the strength to ceaselessly climbing the path of their glorification into God. The life of the orthodox Christians is a life lived with Christ and for Christ. The Holy Spirit makes Christ to the present in the Holy Communion and those who take it.

The Holy Baptism is the Sacrament that helps us resume our state of grace, as the Christians cleanse themselves from their forefathers’ sins, as well as from all the sins committed, and they are reborn in a new life to share the fruit of redemption through the Savior’s sacrifice. Baptism is the beginning of our eternal life. Through Baptism, man becomes one with the Trinity, becomes part of the eternal life of the Son of God, crucified and resurrected, enters the Kingdom of Heaven to enjoy with Him the love of the Holy Trinity.

Through Baptism, we are born religiously and become the brothers of Christ, and through the other Sacraments we grow from babies to accomplished men, and we receive the strength to improve ourselves, to continuously tend to perfection.

Keywords: baptism, sacraments, God, theology, spirituality, point of view, Philokalia, Holy Fathers, freedom, grace, virtue

 III.Traduceri

Boris Bobrinskoy, Sfântul Vasile cel Mare și aprofundarea teologiei Duhului Sfânt în secolul al IV-lea, traducere de Nectarie Petre

Abstract: The fourth century was the century that brought about profound theological turmoil, and the consequent victory of Orthodox theology. This troubled century has thus remained in history as the golden century of the Church. In this article Fr. Prof. Boris Bobrinskoy, shines light on the activity of St. Basil the Great, both as father of monasticism, profound theologian, and supporter of Christian missionary and charitable activities. By continually fighting for truth and unity, St. Basil conquered the heresy of the pneumatomachi (Macedonians), and thus established the dogma of the Holy Trinity. His theology illuminates for us the hypostasis of the Holy Spirit, and it is interesting to note that the Second Ecumenical Council (Constantinople, 381), that permanently established the doctrine of the Holy Spirit, has imprinted in the Symbol of Faith exactly the formula that was used by St. Basil: "And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Live, Who proceeds from the Father, Who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, Who spake by the prophets".

Keywords: Holy Spirit, Liturgical Tradition, Revelation, Dogma, Divine "Economia", Doxology, Pneumatomachi, Symbol of Faith.
